In 1873 James Harvey (B 1841 - D 1888) and Gilbert White Ganong (B 1851 - D 1917) founded Ganong Bros. Limited in St. Stephen, NB. In 1884 the partnership was dissolved. James expanded into a successful soap production and Gilbert maintained the candy company known as Ganong Brothers.
Arthur Ganong
(B 1877 - D 1960) President of Ganong Bros., Limited 1917-1957
Fresh out of university, he entered the family business alongside his uncle Gilbert. Having a life-long fascination with chocolate, Arthur proved himself a sharp business man and outstanding manager. Arthur was famous for eating three pounds of chocolate every day.
R.Whidden Ganong
(B 1906 - D 2000) President of Ganong Bros., Limited 1957-1977
Whidden began his career in Ganong's hard candy room. He served as factory superintendent before becoming President in 1957. Whidden's extensive knowledge of production made him a stickler for quality. He is best remembered for his unwavering commitment to his employees and the community.
David A. Ganong
President of Ganong Bros., Limited 1977-2008
David's accomplishments and awards are far too numerous to list in their entirety. A graduate of the University of New Brunswick (BA) and the University of Western Ontario (MBA), David became president of Ganong Bros. in 1977, a position he held until 2008. David currently holds the position of Chairman at Ganong.
